People of Purpose

Connecting people to their unique human experience through Purpose.

Jul 28, 2018

This week is a one-of-a-kind episode in which I interview 10 people from my Master's of Education graduate school program. Each of us comes from different backgrounds into the same program. I thought it would be interesting to give you a glimpse of the immense sense of purpose each one is bringing into their teaching and education youth in urban, public charter schools in California. The cohort is as diverse as the students we serve and I am impressed with how passionate, caring, and conscientious each of my classmates is. In this interview I ask roughly four general questions answered over about five minutes.

Those questions are:

1. Whats your name where and what you’ll be teaching

2. What is your purpose for doing this program?

3. What kind of teacher do you hope to become?

4. How will your background and story Come into your teaching?

The model of this program is called a Teacher Residency. We spend a year in an accelerated Master's degree program through the Alder Graduate School of Education, while we co-teach alongside a Mentor Teacher at a school-site. I'm doing my program through KIPP Bay Area Schools- a free- public charter school network open to all students while others in the program are doing their teaching training through Aspire Public Schools and Caliber Schools - both also free, public charter schools.
